“Greater love has no one than this, that a person lays down their life for their friends”
Jesus – The Bible
Welcome & Introduction
Act of Remembrance
Let us remember before God,
and commend to his sure keeping
those who have died for their country in war;
those whom we knew,
and whose memory we treasure;
and all who have lived and died
in the service of humankind.
Names are read out
Led by members of Gatley’s uniformed groups.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
All We will remember them.
The Last Post
Followed by two minutes silence
Reveille
When you go home, tell them of us and say,
‘For their tomorrow, we gave our today.’
Laying of Wreaths
Wreaths are laid by representatives first from the local council then faith groups followed by the uniformed organisations, after which others may also lay their wreaths and tributes.
National Anthem
God save our gracious King,
long live our noble King, God save the King.
Send him victorious, happy and glorious,
long to reign over us: God save the King.
Act of Commitment
Let us pledge ourselves anew to the service of God
and our fellow men and women:
that we may help, encourage, and comfort others,
and support those working for the relief of the needy
and for the peace and welfare of the nations.
All Lord God our Father,
we pledge ourselves to serve you and all people,
in the cause of peace,
for the relief of want and suffering,
and for the praise of your name.
Guide us by your Spirit; give us wisdom;
give us courage; give us hope;
and keep us faithful, now and always. Amen.
Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.
Prayers for Peace
Prayers will be led by representatives from the community
Let us pray for all who suffer because of conflict and let us pray for peace.
God, give us peace.
God give us peace.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Hymn
O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home;
Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure;
sufficient is thine arm alone, and thy defence is sure.
Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,
from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.
A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone,
short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.
O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
be thou our guard while troubles last, and our eternal home.
The Blessing
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
All Amen.
